Premier global construction company Multiplex has reached a major construction milestone on Stage Two of West Side Place, ‘topping out’ the super high-rise residential towers that represent the final stage of the new $2 billion precinct in Melbourne’s CBD.

Notably located at 651-669 Lonsdale Street and designed by Cottee Parker Architects, West Side Place is one of the largest residential developments in Victoria boasting a total of 2,895 apartments over four high-rise towers.

Stage Two of West Side Place comprises two 70-level towers, comprising a combined total of 1,519 apartments featuring premium amenities and high-quality finishes.

The towers stand at an impressive 235 metres above street level and approximately 80,000 cubic metres of concrete was used for both towers to get to Topping Out.

“We are delighted to have reached this milestone on Stage Two of West Side Place, a critical step towards the completion of the CBD’s largest residential precinct,” said Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Multiplex.

Stage One of the West Side Place precinct includes the city’s first Ritz-Carlton Hotel, with Stage Two delivering two new residential towers with retail arcades and a 308 room 4-star Dorsett Hotel.

Spanning an entire city block, the new CBD precinct will also provide residents with access to an impressive array of recreation and leisure spaces with over 3,000 square metres of ground floor retail and 475 square metres of dedicated parkland and garden spaces.

West Side Place also includes a new laneway connecting Lonsdale and Little Lonsdale streets, creating space for new restaurants and boutiques. Residents will also have access to a range of exclusive facilities including private dining rooms, a luxury lounge, meeting rooms, a wine cellar, garden terrace, rooftop cinema, lap pool and gymnasium.

A significant employment generator, some 815 workers were on site at peak staffing to achieve the topping out of Stage Two at West Side Place.

Interestingly, the mixed-use residential space also includes a complex podium façade integrating 21 different façade types that twist, protrude, and rake the curtain wall tower façade.

Construction of Stage 2 of West Side Place is on track for completion in April, 2023.
